Guided Tour and Conversation about the Works of Cseh Tamás

Share

March 3, 2018, 5 p.m.

What are Native American figures, totem-like shapes, characters composed of just a few lines, linocuts, and early comic-strip experiments doing at the Gross Arnold Gallery? And what are these picture poems that depict human figures?

The works of Cseh Tamás will be presented by Ölveczky Gábor, graphic designer from Komárom, fellow “Indian,” and friend.

“The Cseh Tamás exhibition on view at the Arnoldo Gallery on Bartók Béla út is a curiosity in every respect. The creator of the exhibited pictures lived with them for many years diagonally across the street from this gallery, so — if only figuratively — they have come over from there to pay us a visit. Their maker left behind no coherent painterly or graphic oeuvre, yet the choice of subjects and the graphic and pictorial solutions evident in the works reveal flashes of the draughtsman’s or painter’s talent and the power of the images. And, truth be told, the heightened interest in these pictures also owes much to Cseh Tamás’s later, unparalleled career as a performer and musician — and to the fact that Tamás would now be turning 75…” — Szilágyi Gábor, art historian

Due to the size of the venue, attendance at the opening requires registration; you can register for the event at arnoldogaleria@gmail.com. Admission is 1,500 Ft, payable at the venue. The ticket includes a hot drink or a glass of wine.
